Yorkies

Yorkies make the most wonderful companions. Yorkshire terriers are in general energetic, playful, affectionate, loving, and friendly toward people. I may a little biased here as I do have a little yorkie girl named Sammie. That is her at the top of the page. She is having a ball out at the lake.

Yorkies also have some challenging traits which include stubbornness, difficult to train, and an “it’s all about me” attitude. These traits can be held in check with patience and proper training. Taking your little yorkie to puppy school and getting help from a professional can helpful but are not absolutely necessary.

Yorkies come in different sizes. Of course you may have heard the terms “teacup yorkie”, “toy yorkie”, “standard yorkie”, and “miniature yorkie”. Yorkies are actually considered a toy breed. This means that all yorkies are toy. Some breeders use the term teacup when they are referring to yorkies that are about 2 ½ lbs full grown. These tiny dogs are referred to as purse dogs because they fit into a purse. Yorkies in general range in weight between 2 lbs and 10 1bs.

I love my little yorkie. She is a great little companion and so much fun. She is on the larger side which is ok with me. She was a gift and what a gift she has been. She goes running with me on the bike trail and brings chuckles from the other trail enthusiasts as they laugh at the way she keeps up with her short little legs. She goes hiking with me up in the mountains and proves the other trail-goers wrong when they say “she’ll never make it to the top”. She is quite the little yorkie and I don’t know what I would do without her.
